Here is a look at what Southlanders in the SouthtownStar’s East region are accomplishing in school.

News includes Country Club Hills, Markham, Monee and Calumet City.

Hillcrest High School

Students from Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills visited Prairie-Hills Junior High School in Markham to sponsor a Day of Art.

Students were encouraged to explore their creative abilities and introduced to the many art styles as well as the work of current and former Hillcrest students.

Juniors Taraji Stevens and Lea Farhoudeh and senior Rohiya Nono led the drawing group.

Senior Matthew Sanders led the painting group.

Senior Fabie Ezife and junior Kendra Warfield guided the photography group.

Senior Virginia Miller Moore and junior Kennedy Warfield provided support for each group.

Providence Catholic High School

Junior Emelia Misischia, of Monee, was named November’s Student of the Month at Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox.

Thornton Fractional North High School

Alexandria Abraham, a senior from Thornton Fractional North High School in Calumet City, was honored for her poem “Legs” through the Walgreens Expression Challenge, which was established to engage high school teens about healthy choices for their future through creative expression.
