Rich Township residents interested in how the appeal process for property taxes works are encouraged to attend a free forum at 7 p.m. Feb. 6 at Sieden Prairie Elementary School, 725 Notre Dame Drive in Matteson.
Discussion items include the function of the Cook County Board of Review, issues surrounding property tax assessed valuations, and the importance of filing a property tax assessment appeal. A question-and-answer period will follow, and Board of Review staff then will assist attendees with filling out forms to appeal their assessed valuation. Property owners are urged to bring their tax bills to the event.
There is no fee to file an appeal, and in most cases an attorney is not necessary.
Board of Review complaint forms can be obtained at the office of Commissioner Larry Rogers Jr. in the Cook County Building, 118 N. Clark, Room 601, in Chicago; or at the Board of Review website at www.cookcountyboardofreview.com.
For more information about appealing your property taxes, call Rogers’ office at (312) 603-5540 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
