Indiana School student wins spelling bee

Indya Gettings, a fifth-grade student at Indiana Elementary School in Park Forest, recently was the first-place winner in the Matteson School District 162 spelling bee and will advance to the regional spelling bee level.
Noor Baig, a fifth-grade student at Illinois School in Park Forest, was the second-place winner. Bag was the first-place winner last year. Third-place went to Indiana School sixth-grade student Tamia Miller.
Among the third through eighth grade students who participated in the annual event were Alyiah Fields, Alicia Gines, Imani McDowell, Joshua Scott, Kyle Willard, Kennedy Muniz, Kevin Carter, Josiah Griggs, Chad Readey, Sena Settles and Shey Settles.
Other students who participated included Jazmyn Kelly, Keita Allen, Kristen Carter, Angelica Ferguson, Jacob Washington, Ramon Ajasa, Ali Alotbi, Maya Nash, Arlette Osagie, Jalen Scales, Christopher Bell, Kristion Mason-Smith and Jacob Nieto.
Other participating students included Dejah Pate, Tylon Ross, Jaylen Hankins, Joshua Blair, Jasmine Bovia, Chris Jones, Tashauna Yates, Nnenna Ukpaby and Kristiana Russell.
