Steel retirees to meet
The Republic Steel Retirees will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Steve’s Lounge, 13200 Baltimore Ave., Chicago.
The event will begin with a social hour, followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for members and $18 for guests.

Village to host Mortgage Relief project
The village of Orland Park will co-host the Mortgage Relief Project from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 S. Ravinia Ave.
The project guides homeowners through new government programs to lower mortgage payments and avoid foreclosure.

Thorn Creek to offer bird watching
The Thorn Creek Nature Center, 247 Monee Road, Park Forest, will host an open house on bird watching from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Great Backyard Bird Count runs from Friday to Feb. 20, and open house attendees will learn about bird watching.

Eisenhower hosts book drive
The Eisenhower High School National Honor Society is holding a book drive through the end of February.
Books for children in kindergarten through the fifth grade can be dropped off at Blue Island Public Library, 2433 York St.; Blue Island City Hall, 13051 Greenwood Ave.; The Carr Home Gardens Store, 2356 York St.; or Eisenhower High School, 12700 S. Sacramento Ave.
