Students at Forest Trail School in Park Forest recently volunteered for three hours at Respond Now, a homeless prevention center in Chicago Heights.

While at Respond Now, students helped to prepare the newsletter for mailing, worked in the clothing room and helped fill orders in the food pantry. Respond Now depends on volunteers and donations to meet the needs of its clients, school officials said.

The Forest Trail students participate in Park Forest-Chicago Heights School District 163’s S.M.A.R.T. (Students Motivated to Achieve in the Real World Through Technology) Program. S.M.A.R.T. provides afterschool tutoring and enrichment activities that include community service projects.
