Man dies after vehicle hits tree in Matteson

A 45-year-old man died Sunday night after a vehicle struck a tree in Matteson.
Richard Gilliam, of the 100 block of East Central Street in Buckley, was pronounced dead at 6:27 p.m. at St. James Hospital and Health Centers in Olympia Fields, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
His preliminary cause of death was a motor vehicle striking a tree in the 3800 block of 213th Place, the medical examiner’s office said.
An autopsy for Gilliam was scheduled for Monday.
Matteson police did not return calls for comment.
