Richton Park resident Darnell Langston recently was honored during AgeOptions’ 37th annual Luncheon and Volunteering Recognition program titled “Celebrating Aging Outstanding Volunteers.”

Langston is the liaison for the village’s Carriage Creek senior residence and is co-chairman of the Richton Park Senior Citizens Advisory Committee.

“(Langston) has been instrumental in bringing the village its first Senior Citizen Fun Day and the first Senior Safety Day,” said community relations director Vera Brooks. “He reaches out to seniors from all over to attend the events.

Langston also advocates for seniors at the village’s annual Senior Picnic and Senior Giving Thanks Luncheon. When he’s not volunteering, Langston said he enjoys ping pong and chess.

“He volunteers for events on the shortest of notice,” Brooks said. “Richton Park is very lucky to have Darnell.”

AgeOptions connects older adults with community-based resources and options for the aging community of suburban Cook County. Every year the organization honors volunteers who work with and for the aging community.

The Richton Park Senior Citizen Advisory Committee meets every month to discuss happenings in the village and provide resources and events for the senior citizens in the community.
