A former Matteson trustee is in trouble with the law again.
Usher Sawyer III, 55, of 3853 W. 216th Place, Matteson, was charged with domestic battery after an altercation with a 45-year-old woman Aug. 15 in the 17800 block of South Yale Lane in Country Club Hills, police said.
Sawyer served as a Matteson trustee from 2005 to 2009, when he lost his re-election bid.
Police said the woman told Sawyer to leave but he restrained her and took away her cell phone so she couldn’t call police. Then he grabbed her and they both fell to the floor during the struggle.
Police said that the woman suffered cuts on the right side of her neck and chin as well as a cut on her left elbow. Sawyer fled the residence in a red Honda Accord after their skirmish.
Records show Sawyer filed for an order of protection against the woman in 2008 but then dropped it the following month.
Sawyer was also charged with aggravated assault in 2009 after allegedly threatening three men with a gun in Park Forest.
