Here is a look at what Southlanders are accomplishing in college.

News from the SouthtownStar’s East region includes Flossmoor, Homewood, Monee, Chicago Heights, Crete, Olympia Fields, Beecher, Richton Park and South Chicago Heights.

Augustana College

Rabia Jawed, of Flossmoor, recently completed interning at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston as part of the Texas Medical Center summer research internship program. Jawed is a senior at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.

Western Illinois University

Kyle Patrick Hoefler and Reilly Erin Maloney, both of Homewood; and Karen Marie Romero, of Monee; have each been named to the summer 2012 dean’s list at Western Illinois University, which has campuses in Macomb and Moline, Ill.

Purdue University

Several undergraduate students recently participated in the Summer Transition, Advising and Registration program at Purdue University’s campus in West Lafayette, Ind.

Crete — Olaoluwa Ogunlana, Mark Duskey, Kyle Zollinger, Khristopher Kirui, Jason Kint

Flossmoor — Zachary Peterson, Ayanna Daniels

Homewood — Douglas McGuire

Washington University in St. Louis

Ronald Nwumeh, of Homewood, participated in the Summer Scholars program in biology and biomedical research at Washington University in St. Louis.

Drake University

Lyndon Crawford, of Olympia Fields; and Kendrick McKinney, of Homewood; have each received a bachelor’s degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Lewis University

Several area students have been named to the spring 2012 semester dean’s list at Lewis University in Romeoville.
