Park Forest-Chicago Heights School District 163 recently donated several thousand books to Books4Cause, which turns book donations in to libraries for developing education programs throughout Africa.
Maryann Matyasec, director of instructional services, said the donation was done through Governors State University’s Lambda Lambda, the local chapter of the nursing honor society Sygma Theta Tau International, and with the encouragement of Ed Ablordeppey, a building aide at Blackhawk Intermediate Center from Ghana.
Matyasec said the books were collected throughout a period of 10 years and represent older math and reading series that no longer are used in the district.
Matyasec thanked her assistants Annmarie Goodman and Marcy Ptaszek. Goodman spearheaded the organization and delivered the books to GSU, and Ptaszek assisted in the coordination of the donation.
