Walker leads Marian to fourth at invitational

Freshman Kyle Walker, of Country Club Hills, earned first place in original oratory and second place in informative speaking to lead the Marian Catholic High School speech team to a fourth-place overall finish during the Homewood-Flossmoor High School Invitational.
Marian Catholic captured top-six finishes in 12 events including original oratory (Josephine An, of Munster, Ind.; second place); informative speaking (MacKenzie Bainbridge, of Crete; fourth place); and radio speaking (Kaylee Wiater, of Crete; fifth place; and Holly Dankowski, of Park Forest; sixth place).
The school also received awards in humorous duet acting (Julia Kapocius and Marissa Brink, both of Chicago Heights; fifth place); dramatic duet acting (Sylvester Bracey, of Homewood; and Alex Renzetti, of Chicago Heights; fifth place); and special occasion speaking (Bracey, third place; and Renzetti, sixth place).
Students also won awards for original comedy (Dankowski, fourth place; and Chima Ndukwe, of Olympia Fields; fifth place); prose reading (Gabbi Foster, of Chicago; third place; and Lexi Humphrey, of Chicago Heights; fourth place); poetry reading (Humphrey, fourth place; and Kayln Des Jardinsm, of Chicago Heights; sixth place).
The team also won awards in oratorical declamation (Alex Martin, of Markham; fourth place); humorous interpretation (Renae Melone, of Monee; fourth place); and extemporaneous speaking (Chris Korfiatis, of Schererville, Ind.; fifth place).
