For the second straight year, the Chicago Community Trust has awarded a $50,000 grant to Governors State University’s Center for Performing Arts. The grant will be used to support GSU’s “One More Night” series.

Under the terms of the grant, the center will introduce its audiences to Chicago-based theater, dance and musical ensemble companies and develop new audiences through collaboration with diverse arts organizations, school officials said in a news release.

Officials also said “One More Night” is designed to increase attendance from underserved communities, increase theater participation by minority populations, and increase the number of first-time attendees.

“We are pleased that the Chicago Community Trust has once again recognized the work that GSU is doing to bring part of the lively Chicago arts scene to the south suburbs,” Governors State President Elaine P. Maimon said.

“Our further goal is to develop new audiences for Chicago performing arts organizations. The trust is supporting a true win/win arrangement.”

Upcoming installments in the “One More Night” series include “Braid Tales” at 8 p.m. Jan. 26; “Shakti Chakra: The Energy Cycle” presented by Natya Dance Theatre at 8 p.m. Feb. 16; and Orbert Davis’ Chicago Jazz Philharmonic at 4 p.m. March 10.

GSU will host a discussion of each performance prior to all “One More Night” shows. Discussions are free. The Center for Performing Arts is located at the school, 1 University Parkway, University Park.
