Rich Township High School District 227 Board of Education President Betty Owens recently was recently named a Fellow by the Illinois Association of School Boards during the South Cook Fall Division’s recent meeting at Orland Chateau in Orland Park.
Owens joins the ranks of 30 other board members in the state to achieve Fellow status, which recognizes board members’ efforts toward continuous learning and professional development under the IASB School Board LeaderShop Program.
District officials said the goals of the LeaderShop program are to help school boards speak effectively for their communities in setting expectations for their schools; to ensure that those schools achieve the best possible results in meeting those expectations; and to ensure public resources are used effectively and efficiently to achieve those results.
Officials said the LeaderShop program provides the knowledge, skills and resources that school board members need in order to grow both personally and in their ability to provide sound school district leadership.
“I am deeply humbled to serve the students of this wonderful district,” Owens said. “I appreciate the support of IASB and value the programs that help us, as board members, to lead effectively and efficiently.”
Owens is the only Fellow in Cook County. District 227 Board of Education vice President Emmanuel A. Imoukhuede and secretary Sonya Norwood were recognized for Master School Board Member Status during the South Cook Fall Division meeting.
