De La Salle’s White earns All-Tournament honors

De La Salle Institute basketball player Marcus White, a Matteson resident, was chosen to the 2012 MaxPreps All-Tournament Team at the MaxPreps Holiday Classic held from Dec. 26 to 29 in Palm Springs, Calif.
While there, White, a senior guard, helped the Meteors record victories over Orange Lutheran (Calif.) and Antelope Valley (Calif.). De La Salle also lost to Loyola (Calif.) and Miller Grove (Ga.).
In De La Salle’s four games, White scored 74 points, averaging 18.5 per game. White scored 26 points against Loyola and 22 points against Antelope Valley, and also led the Meteors in scoring with 15 points against Orange Lutheran.
Along with his success on the basketball court, White excels in the classroom at De La Salle. White maintains a 3.806 grade-point average and is ranked No. 34 in the 152-member Class of 2013 at De La Salle Institute ‘s Campus for Young Men. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.
“Everyone at De La Salle is very proud of Marcus for all that he has accomplished,” De La Salle coach Tom White said. “Marcus had a great tournament in California. He played very well against strong competition and provided outstanding leadership for our basketball team.
“Marcus truly defines what a student-athlete should be and is very deserving of all the accolades he receives.”
