Here is a look at what Southlanders from the SouthtownStar’s East region are accomplishing in school.
News includes Country Club Hills, Matteson, Olympia Fields, Park Forest and Richton Park.
Zaire Sherrill, Marcus Martin and Joshua Jodlowski showcased their artwork at the Gamma Phi Delta Sorority Inc. Artists of Tomorrow Fine Arts Exhibit.
Sherrill, Martin and Jodlowski are recent graduates of Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills.
Matteson School District 162
Matteson District 162 students participated in Math Olympics, a math event requiring the students to take a mental math test without the aid of scratch paper or a calculator and a written problem-solving exam.
The schools included Arcadia Elementary in Olympia Fields, Indiana Elementary in Park Forest, Sauk Elementary in Richton Park, Illinois in Park Forest, Matteson Elementary and Huth Middle in Matteson.
Sixth-grader Ramon Cross Hurd, of Indiana School, was the highest scorer among all the grades in the Math Olympics. The top-three winners at each grade level were:
First grade — Fauzia Johnson, Arcadia, first; Andrew Mitchell, Arcadia, second; Alexis Byas, Arcadia, third.
Second grade — Leon Dubose, Arcadia, first; Madison Jones, Arcadia, second; Nicholas Haywood, Arcadia, third.
Third grade — Daniel Williams, Matteson, first; Blaze Atwood, Illinois, second; Timothy Tabor, Matteson, third.
Fourth grade — Donovan McIntyre, Illinois, first; Tyneesha Haskins, Sauk, second; Tai Jackson, Sauk, third.
Fifth grade — Kennedy Jones, Indiana, first; Micah Drigo, Illinois, second; Ariel Davis, Indiana, third.
Sixth grade — Ramon Cross Hurd, Indiana, first; Keita Allen, Illinois, second; Ameer Kellogg, Indiana, third.
Seventh grade — Dejah Pate, Huth, first; Michaela Welch, Huth, second; Ugochi Ndukwe, Huth, third.
Eighth grade — Jasmin Bovia, Huth, first; Sara Whitson, Huth, second; Joshua Randle El, Huth, third.
