Richton Park finished in second place in the 2013 Memorial Day “Click it or Ticket” incentive program in the medium-size jurisdiction category.
The Richton Park Police Department will receive a Dual Antenna Moving Radar Unit, the department’s choice of enforcement equipment incentives.
The Illinois Department of Transportation holds the incentive program to help increase safety belt use among drivers, especially during holiday weekends.
The Richton Park police and others in the program also had to record citations during the month of May regarding safety belts and report them in an application provided by the incentive program.
Each agency’s productivity was measured based on safety belt citations, child passenger safety citations and safety belt enforcement zones.
Any citations written for people who did not have their seatbelts on between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. received the most points.
“Traffic safety is very important to our community, and I’m proud of our officers for their efforts in implementing traffic safety throughout the year,” Chief Elvia Williams said.
