Club hosts addiction recovery walk at GSU

In celebration of National Recovery Month, the Governors State University Addictions Studies Alumni Club will sponsor its second annual Walk for Recovery Sept. 14 at Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park.
The Walk for Recovery honors people in recovery or seeking recovery.
The event also celebrates the treatment and support service providers who are committed to increasing awareness surrounding addiction issues.
Registration for the free event is from 8 to 9 a.m., followed by a program at 9 a.m. The two- or three-mile walk will begin at 10 a.m. A resource fair will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Featured at the 9 a.m. program will be speakers Peter Palanca, executive vice president and COO of Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities, who will serve as master of ceremonies; Benneth Lee, founder and CEO at NAEFI, counselor and re-entry specialist for TASC Inc. and comedian Tommy Connolly.
The event also will have door prizes, refreshments, music and entertainment for all attending.
The walk is sponsored by IlliniCare Health Plan, Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities Inc., the South Suburban Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse and the Illinois Certification Board.
