Thorn Creek Nature Center sets lineup of events

Thorn Creek Nature Center in Park Forest will host a series of upcoming events.
The Story of the Landscape Hike in Thorn Creek Woods, with John Yunger, professor of ecology at Governors State University, is to take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 2. The program is free and registration is required.
The Friends of Thorn Creek Woods meeting is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 3. Capital fundraising for painting the nature center and also building a new south bridge will be discussed.
Wednesday Morning Walkers will meet from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Wednesdays for ages 11 and older.
Thorn Creek’s Junior Ecologists Club for ages 9 to 12 will meet from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 16. Registration is required, and participants should dress for the weather.
A Full Moon Night Hike for all ages is to be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 17. Registration is required by Nov. 15.
The Junior Ecologists Club also is hosting its annual holiday food drive for the Rich Township Food Pantry. Donation items can be dropped off at the nature center during open hours from noon to 4 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Acceptable items are nonperishable food items, personal care items for men and women, zip bags (quart and gallon size), baby formula and disposable diapers (adult and infant). Items will be accepted through Dec. 14.
“Woodland Carols” will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at the nature center. The cost is $10 or one bag of groceries per person and includes the program and soup as a refreshment. Registration is required.
