The League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area will host an educational meeting on the topic of issues facing Lake Michigan at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Park Forest Public Library, 400 Lakewood Blvd.
Henrietta Saunders, president of the Lake Michigan League of Women Voters, will discuss the threats and opportunities for Lake Michigan.
The Lake Michigan League of Women Voters is an inter-League organization made up of the local leagues of women voters within the Lake Michigan watershed and/or regional planning areas.
The league works to educate the public on the problems of Lake Michigan and the Great Lakes, encourage public participation in planning for the protection and restoration of the Great Lakes, support scientific research for the Great Lakes, and encourage shoreline management planning and implementation.
The group and another received a grant from the state of Illinois to implement a campaign to educate citizens about problems associated with stormwater runoff, emphasizing action that individuals, communities and regions may take to prevent and alleviate flooding after rainstorms, with an emphasis on green infrastructure.
Saunders will provide an update on that project.
The meeting is open to the public.
