Advanced Placement psychology students at Rich South High School in Richton Park recently were tested on how they demonstrated functional fixedness — the ability to think of a new use for an object.
Students were told to write their name with the objects on a desk, but none of the objects was a writing utensil.
Students were supplied with paper, stickers, paper clips, string and a magazine. Some attempted to make their names out of the objects, while others could not figure out what to do.
