Updated: March 5, 2014 3:11PM

The Lila Mae Wilson Scholarship Foundation is a private non-profit foundation established in April 2011 to help students achieve their education endeavors by providing financial assistance for college.

Dr. Barbara A. Wilson, Founder and Executive Director of YAPS, recently announced that the foundation is now accepting applications for its fourth scholarship competition.

The competition invites students in their senior year of high school from south suburban Cook County. Seniors who have received a letter of acceptance and have registered in an accredited institution of higher learning by the fall of 2014 qualify for the competition.

To be eligible for the $500 scholarship, students must be between the ages of 16-19, and must be a senior in high school in good standing for graduation, and be a U.S. citizen.

The scholarship will be awarded based upon the completion of an application packet consisting of: 1) a letter of recommendation; 2) an official copy of a high school transcript; 3) a written essay; and 4) proof of one community service or extra-curricular activity involvement.

The scholarship application is available at www.yaps-inc.org. It must be received by the deadline of March 14.
