In celebration of Black History Month, Governors State University’s student life department will present the second annual awards show, “Black Women Rock,” according to a press release from the school.
The show honors and acknowledges the contributions of GSU students, faculty and community leaders at the university and in the region.
This red-carpet event will celebrate women in grand style. The “Black Women Rock” awards will be broadcast live locally from GSU’s Center for Performing Arts on Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. on Comcast Channel 16.
The awards show will include performances from De’Borah (a contestant in Season 3 of NBC’s “The Voice”), the Electric Ladies, Four Women, Arletha Bolton and the Blue Angels, and LavaInk. Dorothy Tucker, a reporter for CBS 2 Chicago, will be the guest speaker.
“Black Women Rock” is a way of honoring, praising and rejoicing the achievements of women in the community and thanking them for their contributions while honoring diversity, according to the press release. “Black Women Rock” is a free event that is open to the public.
Nominations are being accepted for honorees. To nominate a GSU student, alumna, faculty member or staff member for an award in several categories, visit www.govst.edu/diversity.
