Oak Forest firm picked for Internet project

An Oak Forest company, Urban Communications Inc., has been picked to provide the wireless portion of a broadband network under construction in nine northern Illinois counties.
The iFiber project is a public-private partnership focused on improving broadband infrastructure to community anchor institutions such as schools, governments and libraries. The project is being with a $68.5 million federal grant and the network is expected to be completed by the summer of 2013.
The network will serve Boone, Carroll, JoDaviess, LaSalle, Lee, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago counties.
Urban Communications provides high-speed broadband wireless access to clients including government agencies, school districts, public colleges, and businesses.
