If Oak Forest community development director Adam Dotson is right, city officials did more Tuesday night than approve a property purchase.
They also sent a message, Dotson said.
Aldermen voted unanimously to buy the property at 15426 S. Cicero Ave., the former home to Chicago’s House of Brews, Numero Uno restaurant and other businesses.
“This is a great opportunity to show the business community as well as the surrounding area that we believe Cicero Avenue has the opportunity to turn around,” Dotson said.
The property will cost the city $165,000.
Dotson said the city won’t formulate specific plans for the site until the building is inspected and the potential cost to make improvements is determined. The city might tear the building down if a makeover is too costly.
City officials expect to close on the deal in mid-June.
