The Midlothian Park District recently conducted its 14th annual Volunteer Recognition Program, during which board president Mike Kohlstedt recognized those who have volunteered their time and talents to the park district.

Kohlstedt recognized volunteers who helped at the Bunny Breakfast, Christmas Luncheon and the monthly Senior Luncheon. Other volunteers worked day camp, taught instructional T-ball and softball, or tended flower boxes.

“It would be impossible to carry on these programs without these volunteers,” said a park district spokeswoman in a news release.

The Midlothian Board of Commissioners also recognized Kim Dwyer with a plaque for her 10 years with the district’s Summer Day Camp. She has been the program coordinator for six years and soon will retire to dedicate herself to a full-time teaching position in Chicago.

Dwyer and assistant day camp coordinator J.D. Kman awarded the Counselor of the Year award to Angela Czub, who taught the preschool program this summer.

Pool manager Terry Knapp awarded the You’re a Lifesaver award to five lifeguards who recently prevented a possible drowning: Jason Arvanites, Stephanie Vivado, Joel Shull, Megan Krause and Liz Shinestine.

Park director Evelyn Gleason also thanked the park commissioners, who collectively have served on the board for 61 years.
