In addition to teaching togetherness, discipline, mental strength, leadership, and everything else that leads to success in team sports, Travis Moore wants his players to remember to express gratitude to the educators who have demonstrated those qualities in classrooms.
So each year, the Eisenhower High School varsity football coach, a graduate of the Blue Island school, sponsors Staff Appreciation Day. Players give a jersey to a favorite teacher to wear on a Friday home game.
“It’s important to thank all of our wonderful colleagues for their amazing support,” Moore said. “We just want to show how much the coaches and players appreciate our teachers. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to show school and team spirit.”
Teachers wore the jerseys all day before a recent Friday home football game.
