Holiday activities abound in Frankfort and Mokena

Kids can write letters to Santa and get a personal response from him when they place their letters in a special mailbox at the Frankfort Park District’s Founders Community Center, 140 Oak St., now through Dec. 12.
Other ways to get into the holiday spirit in the coming weeks in Mokena and Frankfort include:
Children can enter a Christmas coloring contest and win prizes through the Frankfort Park District. Entries can be submitted through Dec. 15 and will be displayed at the Founders Center. Winners will be announced Dec. 18.
The Frankfort Square Park District will host lunch with Santa from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Lincoln-Way North High School cafeteria. Cost is $7.50 per person. Information: (815) 469-3524.
Join Santa and Frosty the Snowman for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Founders Community Center, 140 Oak St., Frankfort. Preregistration is required by Wednesday. Tickets are $8, and $11 for nonresidents of the Frankfort Park District. Information: (815) 469-9400.
Frankfort will have its annual tree-lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at Breidert Green. The event will include visits with Santa, a bonfire, refreshments and holiday music by the Hickory Creek Middle School chorus and the Lincoln-Way East High School choral singers.
The Christkindl event and Cookie Walk will be Dec. 8 and 9 in Frankfort’s downtown, sponsored by the Frankfort Historic Business Association. The weekend includes breakfast with Santa at 9:45 and 11 a.m. Dec. 8 at Kup a Joe for $6 per child. The cookie walk will be from noon to 4 p.m. both days. Tickets are $6 in advance, $7 the day of the event. It will feature horse-drawn carriage rides, Santa letter writing at White Street Market, cookie decorating in the Trolley Barn, a Secret Santa Workshop at Star Visions Photography, street musicians and performers around town. A pet blessing and pet parade will be at 3 p.m. Dec. 9 at Breidert Green.
Judging for Mokena’s Holiday House decorating contest will be Dec. 14 and 15. To enter, call (708) 390-2401 by Dec. 10.
Midnight Madness shopping in Frankfort will be from 5 p.m. to midnight Dec. 14.
