Two people were critically injured Saturday morning when the car they were in struck a semi truck in Alsip.
About 6 a.m., a Ford Taurus struck the rear of a semi truck in the southbound lanes of Cicero Avenue at 128th Street and was trapped under the trailer, Alsip police said.
The driver of the Taurus, Christopher Dellutri, 32, of Chicago, and his passenger, Coleen Palermo, 37, of Oak Forest, were extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. Both were listed in critical condition Saturday afternoon.
The McAllen, Texas, driver of the semi truck was not injured in the crash. He told police that he had just begun a left turn as he felt the Taurus strike his trailer. Dellutri and Palermo could not be interviewed at the time because of their injuries.
Alsip police were investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the crash.
They said that alcohol had been ruled out as a contributing factor.
