Updated: October 9, 2013 6:07AM

The Midlothian Public Library, 14701 S. Kenton Ave., will host “Engage Teens, Art and Civic Participation” taught by Jennie Cottrill, teen librarian and former English teacher.

The program is designed to involve teens ages 12 to 18 in seventh through 12th grades in their communities through viewing, discussing and creating art.

A final project for the group will be creating a mural at the library.

September’s sessions will be 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 21 and 28.

Participants will discuss works of American art with the theme “Growing Up” and relate them personally and to the community. Brainstorming, drafting and revising techniques will be taught to create a poem based on one of the works viewed.

Teens can participate for the whole year or can also do month-by-month participation.

Registration is due Sept. 14 at (708) 535-2027. Information is at www.midlothianlibrary.org.
