In celebration of National Catholic Schools Week, which was Jan. 26 to Feb. 1, St. Damian School in Oak Forest honored the theme of “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service” in a variety of ways, according to event coordinator Amy Garcia.

As part of the school’s pledge to offer 40 service projects and 40 hours of prayer, St. Damian hosted a contemporary ballet performance for students and families titled, “As We Pray.”

This ballet was performed by Ballet 5:8, a Christian professional ballet company and ballet school from Frankfort.

The performance lasted about 45 minutes, and took the audience on a journey through the Lord’s Prayer, according to Garcia. The Ballet 5:8 dancers later posed for pictures and answered questions.

The event gave students an opportunity to experience the expression of faith through the arts, according to Garcia.
