As part of Oak Lawn Community High School’s “Day of the Dead” activities, students in the Spanish II classes honored deceased relatives, friends and pets through photographs and memorabilia on altars in the Media Center.
Students, faculty and staff were also invited to share in the project.
Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in many cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.
Oak Lawn Community High School teacher Araceli Torres incorporated the holiday into her Spanish II curriculum.
The World Languages Club also hosted a movie night featuring “Insidious.” Students attending the movie had the opportunity to try Mexican hot chocolate, horchata (rice water) and churros.
