North Palos District 117 continually seeks ways to encourage its students to read, and one of the ways it does that is by holding various Literacy Nights throughout the school year.

One such event recently was held at Dorn School in Hickory Hills to emphasize the importance of reading while providing parents with the resources and strategies necessary to use when working with their children.

Families that emphasize the importance of education usually have children who excel in the classroom, district officials said.

“Dorn’s Literacy Night was a huge success, with scores of families attending and participating in the various activities,” said district officials in a news release. “It was great to see so many dedicated and involved parents.”
