Petzel: ‘Pamper Yourself’ is a big hit

Updated: March 6, 2012 8:05AM

Greetings fellow Oak Lawnians! Stony Creek Clubhouse, 5850 W. 103rd St., hosted its inaugural “Pamper Yourself” evening for women on Jan. 27. The event featured a fun and relaxing evening for women featuring facials, manicures, Chinese astrology, tarot card readings, light appetizers, cocktails and even bottled wine for sale. A parishioner from St. Germaine also had scarves, accessories and hand-made items available for purchase.

Mary Grana, the clubhouse manager, said they “had a pretty good turnout considering it was the first time we hosted this event.” The idea came from one of the waitresses at the clubhouses and Grana thought it might be a fun event.

“It only took a couple weeks to organize and it was nice because we had flowers on the tables and tea lights.”

A special moment for Grana that evening was meeting a woman who told her that her husband was in hospice. She said her daughter-in-law and granddaughter had brought her to Pamper Yourself just so she could get away and enjoy a night out. She told Grana she had a wonderful time and thanked her. Grana said, “Talking to that one woman made it all worth it for me; it made my night.”

Admission to Pamper Yourself was $5 and the tarot card reader and Chinese astrologer charged a modest $10 per reading. Make-up artists and nail techs, courtesy of Everything’s Relative Salon & Day Spa were on hand to give women mini-makeovers, make-up tips and manicures.

Grana is already thinking about hosting another Pamper Yourself event, so she asked attendees if they had any suggestions to improve upon the evening. She was pleasantly surprised to find out the event was well-received by the women and they enjoyed it just as it was. She thinks she would like to make this a regular event, possibly in January, and have a few more services available for women. In fact, she met a woman at the Jan. 27 event who is a masseuse. The woman passed along her card, so it’s likely that massages may be added to the line-up for the next Pamper Yourself event.

The clubhouse also hosts a similar event for women called “Ladies Night Out,” which takes place twice a year, usually in late summer and November. That event features vendors who sell jewelry, purses, food, cosmetics and other products. For information on upcoming events at Stony Creek Clubhouse, visit www.golfstonycreek.com.
