Oak Lawn Community High School student Brittany Burzinski recently was named a Golden Apple Scholar. The program seeks students who are interested in pursuing teaching as a career.

Out of more than 1,200 nominations received, only 135 students were selected as Golden Apple scholars this year.

Burzinski will observe summer school teachers and receive instruction in writing, teaching pedagogy and understanding diversity. She also will receive $23,000 of financial assistance for college.

Burzinski has participated in speech, drama, cheerleading, soccer, Student Helpers and National Honor Society. She also has received academic letters for earning high grade point averages.
