Oak Lawn Community High School’s Journalism Team recently participated in the Illinois High School Association State Journalism meet in Charleston.
For the second consecutive year, the sophomore duo of Kristina Balboa and Paige Jarzabkowski earned a second-place finish in Yearbook Theme Development. Senior Tom Plutz brought home a fourth-place finish in the Yearbook Layout Double Page Spread category. Katie Plutz took fifth place in the Newspaper Design category.
Other state qualifiers included students Barbara Pajor, Veronica Quintero, Jason Klaer, Kristen O’Connor and Roger Vargas.
“It was a long day, and there was some great competition down there,” said Brian Frangella, who accompanied fellow Journalism Team adviser Pat DiFilippo to the meet.
“We are proud of all of our students. They were excited to be there; they were well-behaved and they represented Oak Lawn in a positive manner. They are just an outstanding group of kids. We are looking for more great things from these students in the future.”
