Kerr Middle School in Blue Island recently raised $2,000 for the American Diabetes Assocation during the inaugural School Walk for Diabetes.
The National Junior Honor Society sponsored event, took place at Memorial Park in Blue Island. A DJ provided entertainment while more than 150 students walked through the park.
After the walk, students were treated to fresh fruit made available through grant funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.
The School Walk for Diabetes is an educational school fundraising program that promotes healthy living, school spirit and community involvement. The money raised through the event helps to fund diabetes research, education and advocacy in support of the mission of the American Diabetes Association.
