Second Oak Lawn bank robbed in one week

Updated: July 9, 2012 6:13AM

Police are looking for a man who robbed the TCF Bank branch, 8801 S. Ridgeland Ave., in Oak Lawn at 9:18 a.m. Thursday.

The bank is inside a Jewel Food Store.

A man handed a teller a note that “instructed the teller to hand over money,” Oak Lawn police said in a news release.

The note implied the man had a weapon, however none was displayed, police said.

The man fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to the FBI.

Oak Lawn police said the man ran out the south entrance of the store and headed east.

A person matching the man’s description was seen east of the store, entering a burgundy Chrysler, police said.

The man was described as black with dreadlocks, about 5-foot-8 and in his early 20s, police said.

He wore a dark gray running jacket with white stripes on the sleeves and blue jeans, police said.

Officials are asking anyone with information to call the Chicago office of the FBI at (312) 421-6700 or the Oak Lawn Police Department at (708) 422-8292.

This is the second bank robbery in Oak Lawn in the past week.

On Saturday, a man cut through the roof of a Bank of America branch, 4046 W. 111th St., and fled with about $100,000.

Police later charged Charles Estell, of Chicago, with felony bank robbery after finding him stuck in the ceiling, between an air duct and a corner of the building.
