Richards High School senior Samantha Kusta recently signed a national letter of intent to play softball for Roosevelt University.

“If I were stuck on a desert island, Sam’s one of the people I’d like with me,” Richards coach Julie Folliard said. “She would not give up until we figured out a way home.

“Sam just loves to compete. It’s why she’s done so well here and why she’ll make a great addition to the Roosevelt program.”

Kusta became the third player from this year’s varsity team, which won the South Suburban Red championship and a regional title, to sign with a college program.

Earlier, 2011 Gatorade Illinois Softball Player of the Year Brianna LeBeau signed with Northwestern University and Hannah Jenkins signed with Loyola University Chicago.
