Despite playing for neighborhood bragging rights, volleyball players from Richards and Shepard high schools united before their match for a common cause.

Ditching their school colors for pink, the teams posed together for a photo that symbolically concluded their “Volley for the Cure” campaign. The match provided the final act following weeks of fundraising and awareness efforts about the risks of breast cancer.

October was national Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Shepard and Richards both raised money for the Integrative Therapy Program, which supports women in treatment for breast cancer at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, during this year’s campaign.

Students raised more than $1,000 for the Integrative Therapy Program.
