The Hickory Hills Police Department and Hickory Hills Ald. Tom McAvoy recently honored several Boy Scouts and their leaders for their role in helping authorities protect the area from a crime wave.
Hickory Hills police made a call to the Arrowhead Scouting Community for help in notifying residents of a rash of recent criminal activities, including burglary, police said. In less than a week of receiving the request, 29 Scouts responded.
The group assembled at the Hickory Hills Police Department for a briefing before splitting into teams and walking the streets to commence door-to-door distribution of a flyer that informed residents of the threatened activity and what to watch for, as well as the action to take if they saw criminal activity occurring, police said.
Hickory Hills police made several related arrests within days of completing the distribution, they said.
Participating Boy Scouts included Allen Johnson, Tom Nelson, Matt Nelson, Mike Branigan, John Branigan, John Nelson, Carmen Trapani, Alex Lisowski, Nick Lisowski Jr., Zachary Welsch, Tyler Casper Stroh, Kyle Murphy, Nick Lisowski Sr. and Sue Lisowski.
Other participating Scouts included Trenda Welsch, Cathy Murphy, Bobby Shamasko, Trevon Pierce, Nick Relstab, Justin Gilmore, Tom Matonis, Karen Shamasko, Jim Relstab, Linus Matonis, Xavier Sanchez, Gabriel Sanchez, Mary Jo Carballo Sanchez and Kevin Barry.
