CHICAGO
McAuley seniors named Commended Students
Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School seniors Caitlin Conroy, Casey Rowe and Christine Schmidt recently were named Commended Students in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Commended Students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 competition by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
JUSTICE
Wilkins band performs at open house
Wilkins Junior High School in Justice recently hosted an open house for parents and students.
The event included a performance by six students from the Symphonic Winds and Strings Ensemble, which performed selected pieces before the opening welcome by Principal Joe Porrey.
The group has performed at school concerts, the District 66 Winter Invitational and the Band-O-Rama and Orchestra Festival.
Band members include Angelica Rog, Megan Ginger, Izabella Gieron, Nora Majdoubeh, Raizal Lacaya and Klaudia Zwijacz.
OAK LAWN
Baldwin speaks to OLCHS students
Motivational speaker Grant Baldwin recently spoke to students and staff at Oak Lawn Community High School during a student council-sponsored all-school assembly.
Baldwin, author of the book “Reality Check,” discussed how students can prepare for life after high school.
After the assembly, Baldwin participated in the Student Leadership Conference, which is sponsored by student council, National Honor Society, and the student activity office.
