St. Laurence open house
St. Laurence High School in Burbank recently hosted an open house for students in sixth through eighth grades and their families.
Students, faculty and parents of current students gave tours and answered questions for prospective students and their families.
The school will host another open house from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 9 at the school, 5556 W. 77th St., Burbank.
OLCHS students take Strong Challenge
The United States Army recently hosted the 2012 Army Strong Challenge, an interactive event that includes physical fitness and academic challenges, at Oak Lawn Community High School.
Through the event, the United States Army aims to promote an active and healthy lifestyle as well as the importance of academics, school officials said in a news release.
Students participated in a five-part challenge that consisted of both physical and academic components. They competed in teams of four to six people.
Those who completed the Army Strong Challenge were awarded a T-shirt.
Lions Club hosts 5K event
The Hickory Hills Lions Club recently held its third annual Roar and Run for Fun 5K race.
Proceeds from the race will help the Hickory Hills Lions continue to supply food baskets and eye care to area families in need.
Top male and female winners included Garrett Kellogg and Magdalena Mrozek (first place); Gregorz Dziubek and Maureen Spinler-Kracik (second place); and Jakub Zajac and Jackie Menoni (third place).
