Road rage arrest

An Oak Lawn resident was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property after a Dec. 22 road rage incident on 95th Street, according to police.

Edward F. Roche, 49, 10413 Kolin Ave., was driving west, repeatedly sounding his horn before nearly hitting the victim’s car when he attempted to change lanes, police said. They said he threw an unknown object at the woman’s car, causing her to throw a water bottle at his vehicle.

Roche exited his car at the next stop, yelled at the woman, broke off her car’s passenger-side mirror and drove away, with police stopping him in the 5800 block of 95th Street, police said.

Roche told police he threw gum at the woman’s car and admitted to getting out of his car and yelling at her but denied breaking the mirror.

Senior moment

An elderly man was charged with battery Dec. 22 after pushing a woman to the floor in a gas station while waiting to buy lottery tickets, police said.

John T. Hanlon, 81, 10632 Kenneth Ave., Oak Lawn, was arrested about noon after he shoved the 65-year-old woman during an argument while they were in line for tickets at the station, 10601 Cicero Ave., according to police.

Hanlon said the woman pushed him, causing him to retaliate, but a security camera showed the woman did not push Hanlon, police said.

Witnesses told police that Hanlon said, “I don’t care if you’re a woman or not” before shoving her. She was not injured. police said.

Stealing for Christmas?

A Matteson woman was charged with stealing baby formula from a supermarket on Christmas Eve and then selling it to another store, supposedly to get money for a Christmas present for her daughter, police said.

They said Wansetta Freeman, 38, was charged with retail theft after she admitted stealing about $100 in formula from Dominick’s, 4233 W. U.S. 30, and reselling it to a Ford Heights convenience store for $30, police said.

Freeman told police she used the money at a clothing store to buy a Christmas present for her daughter.

Afterward, she returned to the Dominick’s and attempted to steal more baby formula, but store employees had noticed the earlier missing items, reviewed video surveillance and recognized her when she returned, according to police.

MOKENA

Warning goes badly

A Frankfort woman was arrested for punching a stranger at a gas station while intoxicated and distraught over the death of a friend, police said.

Nicola O’Reilly, 22, 8229 W. Rosebury Drive, was charged with battery and criminal damage to property following the Dec. 28 incident.

Police said O’Reilly earlier that evening had attended the wake of a friend who had died from a possible drug overdose and afterward got drunk at a bar.

A friend was driving her home and stopped to get gas at a station, 19855 LaGrange Road, where O’Reilly stuck her head into a neighboring car and warned two teenage boys inside not to let their friends do heroin, according to police.

When they told her to get away, O’Reilly opened a rear door, hit a 19-year-old Mokena man in the face and broke his eyeglasses, police said.

PARK FOREST

Teen charged in home burglaries

A 17-year-old resident has been charged in connection with three recent home burglaries and one attempted break-in after he was caught Jan. 3 trying to enter a house in the 300 block of Waverly Street, according to police.

Police got a call about someone trying to break into the house, but no one was at the house when officers arrived, police said, causing them to search the immediate area. They said Jeremy Turner, 218 S. Orchard Drive, was spotted walking nearby and was stopped and questioned.

Turner was taken to the police station for further questioning and admitted to house burglaries on Sauk Trail last summer, Blackhawk Street in August and Nov. 1 on Waldman Street, police said.
