The Oak Lawn Community High School Anime Sci-Fi Club and the school’s media center recently sponsored an afterschool field trip for 16 students to the see the new movie, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”
For avid fans like seniors Thomas Mallon and Nathaniel Topping, it was the second trip to see the film.
The movie is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novel “The Hobbit,” a prequel to “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
In the books, various fictional creatures including dwarves, elves and goblins fight for control of Middle Earth.
Though published decades ago, the books are popular staples in Oak Lawn Community High School’s media center, school officials said.
The Anime Sci-Fi Club meets after school every other Thursday in Room 107. Field trip chaperones were Jamie Atkus, a special education teacher and club adviser; and media specialists Eileen Jones and Jennifer Sidlow.
