Oak Lawn Community High School’s speech team recently took first place in the South Suburban Conference Tournament.
Junior Emily Salomone took first place in both humorous interpretation and oratorical declamation; senior Emily Harris took first place in original oratory; and sophomore Lauren Snee took first place in special occasion speaking.
“With only four seniors on the team, it was critical that the junior team members stepped up and demonstrated their role as team leaders,” coach Erika Johnson said.
“They have, with astounding confidence and talent. All of the coaches are very proud of the team’s ability to work together and depend upon each other.”
The team is preparing for the state competition, which will take place Friday and Saturday in Peoria. The forensics show is Feb. 22.
