Leo Club members from Shepard High School in Palos Heights recently gathered after school to make fleece blankets for babies born prematurely at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park.
The service project connects to faculty co-sponsor Meghan Hurley, whose son was born 10 weeks early and spent an extended period in the natal intensive care unit at Little Company in 2011.
Someone had donated a fleece blanket to her son, so Hurley thought Leo Club might like to help her return the favor.
“I thought it was a very nice gesture during a time that was very stressful for our family. I brought the idea to our Leo Club members and they immediately wanted to help,” Hurley said.
Hurley, fellow sponsor Jennifer Klein, and Leo Club stayed after school to share music, laughter and food and make fleece blankets.
Leo Club members donated the money to buy the fleece and then went shopping to buy the material, too. They made blankets of various sizes.
