Here is a look at what Southlanders are accomplishing in school.
News from the SouthtownStar’s North region includes Oak Lawn, Burbank, Bridgeview and Justice.
Oak Lawn High
Several Oak Lawn Community High School students were named Illinois State Scholars. They include:
Samuel Bernier, Cathal Burke, Joseph Cartolano, Kyle Cheng, Nicholas Contino, Kathleen Cortes, Jessica Cosenza, Nicholas Demas, Sean Dunne, Jamie Evtuch, Zachary Frazier, Nathaly Gal, Dominik Gorecki, Miranda Gray, Lorenzo Gudino , Rana Hamad, Jenna Hurckes, Omar Jaber, Marcin Krzysiak, Ronald Luce and Thomas Mallon.
Also, John Morgan, Connor Niemiec, Jeries Nino, Barbara Pajor, Carley Psik, Christine Richter, Isabella Sanchez, Yusra Sarhan and Jessica Schlesser.
St. Laurence High
Christopher Thomas, of Burbank, was accepted into the Kappa Leadership Institute, a mentoring program that prepares students for college and careers.
Thomas is a student at St. Laurence High School in Burbank.
Student council officers at Lyle Elementary School in Bridgeview are Randy Miranda, president; Mattie Hyde, vice president and Adam Chlebek, secretary/treasurer.
Oak Lawn High
Several area students were inducted into the National Honor Society at Oak Lawn Community High School.
They include: Jacob Allen, Brooke Annerino, Tesneim Awadallah, Natalia Bak, Melissa Barragan, Steven Boetscher, Randel Bracken, Julia Bugaj, Rachel Burba, Cathal Burke, Fajjar Butt, Sarah Cafagna, Nicholas Chovancek, Weronika Ciezczak, Noor Dakhlallah, Nicholas Demas and Stephanie Dominguez.
Also, Julie Eble, Colleen Fahy, Jamie Fionda, Natalia Gawelda, Fidencio Gonzalez, Miranda Gray, Melissa Greiman, Bushra Hamad, Marc Hansen, Kyle Hayes, Jordan Hepburn, Haley Hiljus, Tara Hill, Isabella Ibarra, Yara Ismail, Morgan Jozsa, Daniel Kalinin, Bailey Kean, Marcin Krzysiak and Kyle Kuzur.
Also, Brittani LaRusso, Amanda Leone, Rebecca Mackowiak, Kathleen Mancillas, Lauren Misner, John Morgan, Kayed Nofal, Kristen O’Connor, Hana Odeh, David Oliver, Bayan Ouri, Andrea Pacetti, Megan Pacetti, James Pattara and Kathleen Plutz.
Also, Megan Pripusich, Kayla Reichert, Dominika Rosinska, Victoria Roti, Emma Roza, Emily Salomone, Derek Schapiro, Adam Smith, Jason Snyder, Mitchell Swatek, Nayfah Thnaibat, Shelby Trybula and Kamila Zaremba.
Fifth grade students from Wilkins Elementary School in Justice participated in the annual Hickory Hills Sertoma Heritage Poster Contest.
Patricia Stoch earned first place, Robert Toczek placed second and Ewelina Pawlak took third. They were invited to attend a breakfast hosted by the Sertoma Club.
Oak Lawn High
Oak Lawn Community High School’s speech team earned first place in the South Suburban Conference Tournament hosted at Oak Lawn.
Junior Emily Salomone took first place in humorous interpretation and in oratorical declamation. Senior Emily Harris took first place in original oratory and sophomore Lauren Snee took first place in special occasion speaking.
Speech coach Erika Johnson said, “With only four seniors on the team, it was critical that the junior team members step up and demonstrate their role as team leaders. They did, with astounding confidence and talent.”
