Shepard High School in Palos Heights announced that more than 40 members of the 2012 senior class were named Illinois State Scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission.
Roughly 10 percent of the state’s high school seniors earn this recognition each year.
In order to earn Illinois State Scholar honors, students must:
♦Attend an Illinois recognized high school.
♦Be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen.
♦Be a resident of Illinois.
♦Take the ACT, SAT I or Prairie State Achievement Exam during the third or fourth semester prior to graduation from high school (typically between Sept. 1 and June 30 of the junior year).
♦Rank in the top half of his or her high school class at the end of the third semester prior to graduation from high school (typically as a junior in their sixth semester).
♦Graduate from high school during the academic year in which the student is selected as an Illinois State Scholar.
Shepard seniors named Illinois State Scholars for 2012-13 include Zachary Abbott, Alexandria Albrecht, David Anderson, Tristan Busch, Jodilyn Butkovich, Matthew Cabel, Joseph Cullinan, Tran Dao, Robert Doherty, Thomas Eyer, John Garetto, Ileen Gruchot, Cesar Hernandez, Trenton Hettlinger, Jamal Jackson, Hannah Jarman, Kyle Jasik, and Robert Jatho.
Other Illinois State Scholars from Shepard include Courtney Kalebich, Emma Kautz, Samantha Korsak, Alexis Kozicki, Abigal Leeper, Alec Manzo, Emily Marszalek, Michael McIntyre, Timothy McIntyre, Michael Miletich, Joey Molloy, Jordan Oliva, Torin Pena, Faith Petkus, Amanda Potenberg, Justin Reynolds, Steven Salcik, Nickolas Schwartzkopf, Amy Spanczak, Tyler Strejc, Sarah Walker, Abigail Walters, Taylor Warren, Betty Waters, and Breanna Witt.
