Open viewing returns at Moraine Valley’s observatory

Moraine Valley Community College is hosting a series of open telescope viewing nights this year, with eight dates between March and October.
The college’s 11th year of open telescope viewing includes a calendar of Friday night events.
They are March 22 at 7:30 p.m., April 19 at 8 p.m., May 31 at 8:20 p.m., June 14 at 8:45 p.m., July 12 at 8:45 p.m., Aug. 16 at 8:15 p.m., Sept. 13 at 7:15 p.m., and Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
The viewings are pending clear skies and low winds.
They are held at the telescope dome on the G. Jack Bradley Observation Deck, which is located off Kean Avenue near 107th Street.
Viewings are hosted by Tom McCague, a retired associate professor and an amateur astronomer for more than four decades. He built the telescope and donated it to the college.
