Here is a look at what Southlanders are accomplishing in school.
News from the SouthtownStar’s North region includes Evergreen Park, Palos Heights, Chicago’s Beverly community, Palos Hills and Oak Lawn.
Evergreen Park High School
Katelynn Hohman, of Evergreen Park, a student at Evergreen Park Community High School, was selected to represent Illinois as a National Youth Delegate at the 2013 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University in Washington, D.C.
She will join 250 students from across the country to participate in a week-long study of leadership in environmental science and conservation.
Hohman was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest in leadership in the sciences and conservation studies, according to a news release.
George Mason University partners with National Geographic and the National Zoo for the program.
Brother Rice High School
Several area students at Brother Rice High School in Chicago were recognized as Illinois State Scholars. They include:
